Description

Bavaria. Maximilian I Joseph Taler 1815 MS65 PCGS, Munich mint, KM701, Dav-551, AKS-48, Thun-43, Wittelsbach-2592. Mintage: 6,913. Not a type-date that we have previously offered, making the offering of the present, gem-graded piece all the more spectacular. Leagues above the other examples we have been able to locate, this selection presents an aesthetic caliber that far outstrips any of the usually "negative" connotations that usually come with its striking from slightly rusty dies and slight haymarking to the reverse, which instead make it all the more stunning that the piece was struck and preserved so finely. As one pulls back from examining the coins radiant flow lines, they are immediately drawn in again by pondlike appearances, leaving the impression that this is a coin one quite simply cannot look away from.
