Spectacularly Scarce Guanajuato Pattern

Republic silver Proof Pattern 8 Reales 1827 Go-WW PR64 Cameo NGC, British Royal Mint, KM-Pn12, Buttrey/Hubbard-20. Spectacularly scarce. Following Mexico's independence, the Anglo-Mexican Mint Association took over production at the mint in Guanajuato in 1825. The Association made the decision to shop-out the engraving to London, where the task was assigned to the talented William Wyon. According to Kent Ponterio, based on the research of T.V. Buttrey and Clyde Hubbard, the pattern pieces were likely struck in London using the state-of-the-art steam powered presses. We agree with Ponterio that the design is a masterpiece, which displays all the more brilliantly on this wonderfully toned, Proof Cameo planchet. According to our research, this is the only example associated with the Guanajuato mint that has surfaced at a major auction house in recent memory, so we expect much enthusiasm among specialists and trophy hunters.
