Description

Maximilian gold 20 Pesos 1866-Mo MS63 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM389, Fr-62, Grove-5445. Mintage: 8,274. Even more impressive than the Eliasberg and Rudman pieces that both grade lower than this example of an iconic one-year issue that often serves as the mainspring of a Mexican gold collection. The decadent luster and surviving condition of the devices perhaps merit an even higher grade though the surface friction-so common on the type-prevents such an assignment.
