Description

Oliver Cromwell gold Specimen 'Restrike' "Death" Medal 1658-Dated (c. 1870) SP62 PCGS, cf. Eimer-201, MI-I-434/84. 29mm. Plain edge. Struck from later, refurbished Dutch dies. An iconic medallic issue whose reproduction by a later, unknown, Dutch artist, listed by Henfrey in 1877, clearly indicates its popularity amongst collectors unable to procure originals for themselves. Finely mirrored across the surfaces, the devices display a prominent frost that helps to bolster the piece's overall eye appeal. We note that while PCGS has dated this piece based on the Henfrey reference, the actual date of production is uncertain, with some numismatists arguing it was actually produced much earlier.

Metal: Gold
Diameter: 29mm
