Description

1797 Dollar, B-3, BB-71, XF40
10x6 Stars
Guide Book Variety

1797 $1 10x6 Stars, Large Letters, B-3, BB-71, R.2, XF40 PCGS. Bowers Die State III, both dies lapped. BB-71 is one of only three die marriages for the 1797 silver dollar, and it is the only one with the 10x6 obverse star formation. The small die variety count owes itself to a small mintage for this issue. Only 7,776 dollars were struck during the 1797 calendar year, although 1797-dated dies may have been used into 1798 production. BB-71 corresponds to the 10x6 Stars Guide Book variety, making it an essential acquisition for many collectors of early dollars. This lightly circulated coin displays deep lilac-gray and gold patina. No adjustment marks are visible and detail is sharp.
