Description

1793 S-14 Liberty Cap Cent
Very Fine Sharpness

1793 1C Liberty Cap, S-14, B-17, Low R.5 -- Environmental Damage -- PCGS Genuine. VF Details. The bisecting crack between the E in LIBERTY and the 3 in the date is characteristic of the rare Sheldon-14 Liberty Cap cent. This well-defined dark brown representative is evenly granular but lacks any noticeable marks. The date is fully readable, and all other legends are bold. Probably, the obverse die cracked when it was hardened, since no examples of S-14 are known without it. The crack may explain the rarity of the variety, although all six 1793 Liberty Cap varieties range from very scarce to extremely rare. Our EAC grade VG8.
