Description
1928-D Quarter, Bold MS66 Full Head
Post-1924 Full Head Rarity
1928-D 25C MS66 Full Head PCGS. The 1928-D is underrated in
Full Head grades. The issue is scarcer than the 1929-D, 1923-S, and
even the 1916, and is almost as elusive in this category as the
1919-D and -S. The present Premium Gem is far finer than most Full
Head examples, and just a handful of Superb Gems are superior. The
Gardner MS66 Full Head -- Gardner, Part III (Heritage, 5/2015), lot
98437 -- was the last Premium Gem example we offered, realizing
$17,625. This example is comparably sharp and equally
well-preserved with satin luster and traces of warm golden toning.
A finer Full Head example has not appeared in our auctions since
2003, making the current offering highly important to the Standing
Liberty quarter specialist. Housed in a green label holder.
Population: 18 in 66 (2 in 66+) Full Head, 3 finer
(10/15).(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 243Y, PCGS# 5769, Greysheet# 5600)
