Description

1852 Seated Liberty Dollar, MS62
Low-Mintage Key Silver Rarity

1852 $1 MS62 PCGS. OC-1, Low R.5. Osburn-Cushing Die State a/a. The Philadelphia Mint coined just 1,100 circulation strike dollars in 1852 along with a small additional quantity of 1852 proofs, likely as few as three to five original proof examples. An additional number of proofs were struck in later years, perhaps numbering 50 to 60 restrike coins. It is believed that all circulation strike coins are originals actually issued in 1852. Such pieces are highly sought by knowledgeable collectors and numismatists. Most surviving circulation strike coins are seen in grades of XF and AU, although occasionally lower or higher grade pieces appear in the marketplace. This example is one of those rare Mint State pieces and it is highly desirable at this MS62 grade. The surfaces are satiny and mildly prooflike, with somewhat reflective devices. Pale-champagne color covers both sides with splashes of deep-lilac toning. The strike is sharp in most areas, although lacking full details on the right-side stars including star 8, which is smooth and rounded. This minimally marked and wonderfully attractive 1852 original silver dollar is sure to receive great attention when it crosses the auction block.
