1859-D $5 Medium D AU55 PCGS. CAC. Variety 44-HH. The usual variety. Doug Winter writes, "The coloration on original, uncleaned examples is medium to deep green-gold. Pieces are also known with lighter orange-gold shading. Most have been cleaned or dipped at one time." This high-end Choice AU half eagle is undeniably original with remaining mint luster and eye-appealing color The stars, date, and reverse legend are razor-sharp, while detail is typically mushy in the centers. There are a few small marks in the obverse fields but not much else. From a mintage of 10,366 pieces. Population: 21 in 55, 29 finer. CAC: 4 in 55, 7 finer (7/18).(Registry values: P3)
