Description

1883 Trade Dollar, PR67 Cameo
Rare Top-Tier Proof Type Coin

1883 T$1 PR67 Cameo PCGS. The 1883 was the last date in the Trade dollar series distributed widely via proof sets. Coinage continued in 1884, but the majority of the mintage was never released, and five 1885 proofs were similarly struck and never distributed through proof sets. The 1883 is the last date that might be considered a proof type coin. High-grade pieces are often well struck and eye-appealing, which is represented on the current piece. This high-end Cameo displays amber toning around the borders with a blush of blue along the lower right border. Glimmering fields, are mostly brilliant, and the sharp central devices provide ample contrast and eye appeal. We have seen few comparable 1883 Trade dollars. In fact, we have not handled a PR67 Cameo example of this date since 2012. Population: 5 in 67 (2 in 67+) Cameo, 0 finer (7/25).(Registry values: N7079)
