Description

1864 2C Small Motto, FS-401, MS65 Red and Brown PCGS. Wheat-gold fields balance light burgundy design elements tinted with hints of lilac and orange in this pleasing Red and Brown Gem. Areas in the center show a slightly soft strike, while the remainder of the high points and legends show strong details. A few tiny specks along with some microscopic imperfections are typical of the issue and grade, and do not detract from the overall eye appeal of this piece, which is quite pleasing. The Small Motto variety is one of the key issues in the series. PCGS reports only eight numerically finer in Red and Brown, and eight numerically finer in Red (2/25).
