Description

Oliver Cromwell 1/2 Crown 1658 MS63+ NGC, KM-B207, S-3227A, ESC-252. Exceptionally high grade for the type; there are just three coins graded higher than this one seen by NGC, with just one higher at PCGS. These mint state coins rarely show up on the market, and when they do, there is always heated competition over them; the last Mint State graded example to appear at auction was in June, 2017, where a PCGS MS64 realized a hammer price of $11,500. The current specimen has exceptional toning, with dark gray coloration and subtle blue iridescence. Overall a premium specimen worthy of a premium bid.
Ex. Andrew Wayne Collection (Classical Numismatic Group 72, 14 June 2006, lot 2645); Owen F. Parsons Collection (Baldwin's 12, 27 May 1997), lot 937.
