Description

George II Proof Crown 1746 PR65 NGC, Royal mint, KM585.2, S-3690, ESC-1669. Mintage: 100. From the first British proof set, this top survivor is broad with bold dentils at the edges and is well-struck as well, with centers that are sharply pronounced and without signs of weakness. In the fields, strong reflective qualities are immediately apparent, rivaling coins of a considerably more modern vintage, and the surfaces are awash in iridescent multicolored tone over both sides. A single instance of contact, in the field just to the left of George's eyebrow is the only one seen, and without it, the grade would have certainly been a point higher. As it is, tied for the finest graded example we've sold and an ideal candidate for an advanced cabinet of British crowns.
