High-End for the Issue

1870 $10 AU55 NGC. Only 3,990 eagles were struck in 1870 at the Philadelphia Mint, and this issue is scarce today in all grades. Only one, low-end Mint State piece is reported at the grading services. This Choice AU example displays sharp devices and original orange-gold color. The surfaces are moderately abraded but retain semiprooflike reflectivity in the protected regions. Census: 13 in 55, 8 finer (6/18).(Registry values: N2998)
