Description

1859 Three Cent Silver, MS66
Frosty and Well-Struck

1859 3CS MS66 NGC. CAC. This frosty Premium Gem is quite well-struck and virtually free of abrasions, despite the rather bold clash marks that appear on each side. By 1859 the series was on the downslope, so that only 364,200 circulation strikes were made, and subsequent mintages would plummet yearly; the reduced silver content of other post-1853 minor coinage obviated the need for the denomination. The first Type Three issue. Census: 17 in 66, 2 finer (7/13).
