Description

1823/2 Dime, JR-1, MS63
From the Pittman Collection

1823/2 10C Small E's, JR-1, R.3, MS63 NGC. Ex: Pittman. This is an exceptional Select Mint State example of the scarce 1823/2 JR-1 dime, struck at a time of minimal coin production in Philadelphia. Most details are sharp, although typical weakness appears among the hair curls alongside Liberty's cheek and neck. Strong magnification reveals a few scattered surface marks beneath the lovely gold, rose, blue, and green toning that appears on each side. Two denticles at star 10 are merged in this late die state.
Ex: David Bullowa (9/27/1947); John Jay Pittman (David Akers, 10/1997), lot 553.
