Near-Gem Kiangnan Dollar

Kiangnan. Kuang-hsü Dollar CD 1898 MS64 NGC, Nanking mint, KM-Y145a.2, L&M-217, Kann-71. Dragon with raised eyeballs variety, without dot in center of obverse (reverse as holdered). A slightly more available variety for the date-type but almost never witnessed in so lofty a grade, with most representatives encountered in Details grades and only one example certified higher (MS64+) between NGC and PCGS. The strike is comprehensive and bold, coming to life with active luster and glittering lemon hues. It is difficult to imagine a meaningfully finer example when this piece is in hand. A rarity sure to garner attention from only the most advanced collectors.
