Description

1893-CC Five Dollar, AU58 Prooflike
Rare Highly Reflective Example

1893-CC $5 AU58 Prooflike NGC. Winter 1-A. The Carson City Mint produced its final issues of coinage in 1893, striking 60,000 half eagles during its final run. The final-year issue is quite popular, and AU-level pieces are relatively plentiful. Prooflike half eagles, however, become extremely rare, as NGC reports a total of only five Prooflike pieces (10/25). Light olive-gold patina is displayed on well-struck devices that retain most of their original mint luster. Highly reflective fields ignite stark contrast and release bright flashes of orange and lilac. Wear is light and field abrasions are scattered to define the grade, but devices are almost pristine. The overall visual presentation is quite pleasing.
