Finest Certified 1848 Medium Date Half Dime, MS66
Ex: Sweet Collection

1848 H10C Medium Date MS66 NGC. Ex: Sweet Collection. The late Al Blythe made a detailed study of Seated half dimes and published his reference on the series in 1992. He showed a masterful grasp of the Medium Date 1848, and his description perfectly describes this piece:

"The V-3 though a medium date has all numbers touching the base and is a little weakly struck with weakness at the head, toe and shield. Date is boldly punched, and the obverse dentils lack definition at 10 o'clock. The pendant is lined up between the 4 and 8, but closer to the 4, and the shield points to the top of the 1. The reverse may show some weakness in the wreath and the ribbon ends of the bow."

This is the finest example certified and was formerly in the famous Sweet Collection. The surfaces are highly lustrous and there is no trace of toning on either side. A rim-to-rim die crack traverses the reverse.(Registry values: N1)
