Description
Philip V gold Cob 8 Escudos 1714 Mo-J MS61 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM57.2, Fr-6, Cal-2213. 26.93gm. Date on obverse. A scarce Mint State Cob offering, generally not encountered with such frequency as in our current auction, but a delight to see nonetheless. Displaying an allover striking weakness as is occasionally witnessed with this series, the date, mintmark, and assayer are fully discernible, taking center stage against a crowned arms and cross in quatrefoil, which remain somewhat obscured and rendered upon a mellow golden planchet, exhibiting scant instances of mint brilliance. From the Long Island Collection
