O-109a, No Stem, Point 6
Late Die State

1806 50C Pointed 6, No Stem, O-109a, T-15, R.3, AU50 NGC. Tompkins Die State 6/3, nearly terminal. This Guide Book Overton variety is a minor mint blunder, as the engraver failed to add a stem through the eagle's claw on the die. Although Overton-109 is relatively common, the late die state O-109a is scarce It is distinguished by a die crack from star 12 toward the neck. Golden-brown, sea-green, and lavender colors embrace this well-detailed and unabraded type coin. Struck from lightly clashed and rusted dies, consistent with the Tompkins die state.
