Description

1804 1C Restrike MS63 Brown PCGS. Privately minted in the 1860s, the 1804 Restrike cent is not a restrike at all, but a fantasy strike that combined an 1803 obverse die (S-261) with the date altered to 1804, with an 1820 reverse die. The purpose was to allow collectors an opportunity to acquire a cent bearing the 1804 date without the considerable cost of a genuine high-grade 1804 cent. These pieces are highly collectible today. This Select Mint State example has pleasing olive and dark chocolate surfaces with good eye appeal. The reverse is rotated 90 degrees. Our EAC grade AU55.
