Description

1893 Ten Dollar, MS64
Few Pieces Are Known Finer

1893 $10 MS64 NGC. CAC. The 1893 is among the more common 19th century Liberty Head eagles in grades through MS64. It is still rare in MS65 with just five pieces certified in that grade at PCGS and two in MS65+ (12/19). The finest known is a single NGC MS66, which sold for $10,350 in Heritage's Exclusively Internet Auction (6/2004), lot 12073; it has not been seen since. The bold strike and copper-hued, antique-gold patina are instantly appealing. Brilliant cartwheel luster emanates from the satiny surfaces, and perusal under a loupe reveals only minuscule, grade-consistent abrasions.
Ex: Denver Signature (Heritage, 8/2006), lot 2031, where it brought $2,300.
