Congo Free State. Leopold II "R.D. Belges" 5 Francs 1887 MS65 NGC, Brussels mint, KM8.1, Dav-10. Mintage: 8,000. Simply irresistible. Full Gem Mint State appearances abound this wonderful crown-sized issue from the Congo Free State, a region of Africa Leopold claimed at the Berlin conference just two years prior to the creation of this coin. Drenched in absolute mint radiance that wholly envelopes and highlights a tangerine tone graciously coating boldly engraved raised devices. While NGC notes six examples more highly graded, the piece at hand certainly stands above the rest in terms of sheer visual character and is worthy of placement within any discerning collector's cabinet.Ex.
