Description

1853-O No Motto Ten, AU58
Sharp New Orleans Eagle
Unlisted Die Pair

1853-O $10 AU58 PCGS. Undocumented Variety. Both the obverse reverse dies are known for this attractive, near-Mint 1853-O eagle, but they are unlisted when paired together. The obverse shows repunching at the base on 1, 5, and 3 of the date, while the reverse has the mintmark high and close to the feather tip, plus a shield ring and numerous vertical shield lines extending into the horizontal lines above. A total of three obverse dies and six reverse dies are known for the 1853-O, combining for either seven or eight varieties. This is a smoothly lustrous near-Mint example of the undocumented die pair, with sharply struck devices and attractive orange-gold color. The reflective fields show a few light hairlines of minimal distraction. Population (all varieties combined): 23 in 58 (2 in 58+), 4 finer (10/19).(Registry values: N1793)
