Description

1873-S Twenty Dollar, MS61
Popular Closed 3 Variety

1873-S $20 Closed 3 MS61 PCGS. The 1873-S Liberty double eagle has a mintage just over 1 million pieces and features two varieties distinguished by different 3 designs within the date. This example is the Closed 3 variety, and while more common than its Open 3 counterpart, it is scarce in MS62 and extremely rare in MS63. Well-detailed design elements show usual softness on Liberty's hair, with frosty luster on vibrant orange-gold surfaces. Liberty's neck and the field below her bun show notable marks that define the grade.(Registry values: N2998)
