Stunning Choice Mint State Seleucus Stater

MACEDONIAN KINGDOM. Alexander III the Great (336-323 BC). AV stater (17mm, 8.57 gm, 5h). NGC Choice MS 5/5 - 4/5, Fine Style. Posthumous issue, Babylon, under Seleucus I Nicator, ca. 311-305 BC. Head of Athena right, hair in three thick corkscrew curls, upswept at temple, and flowing loose over left shoulder, wearing pendant earring, beaded necklace, and triple crested Corinthian helmet pushed back on head, long parallel crest ends, bowl decorated with griffin leaping right / AΛEΞANΔPOY / BAΣIΛEΩΣ, Nike standing facing, head left, wreath in outstretched right hand, stylis cradled in left arm; MI in outer left field, HYP monogram within wreath in left field below wing. Price 3749 corr. (griffin, not sphinx). SC 81.3 corr. (same). Struck from breathtaking, high-relief dies, meticulously centered on lightly lustrous surfaces.
