Rare Fantasy "Auto" Dollar with Aesthetic Excellence

Kweichow. Republic Imitative Fantasy "Auto" Dollar Year 17 (1928)-Dated MS62 NGC, cf. KM-Y428 (original strike), L&M-611 (same). Different doors variety (no segmentation on driver's door, with dot on door). An absolutely elite appearance of the storied "Auto" Dollar, offering a combination of conditional prowess and aesthetic excellence. This the first imitative fantasy type we've handled and it offers all the intrigue of the historical type with more visual appeal than could be acquired with an original strike. The low-relief devices, often encountered with heavy rub or inconsistent detail, appear here with undeniably exquisite articulation. Their presence on the flan is emphasized by original luster pooling in the silhouettes, creating the illusion that the motifs glisten atop the surfaces. A polychromatic patina, favoring cabinet tones and a pervading champagne hue, provides an air of refinement and personality that elevates the experience of viewing the coin in hand. In all respects, an incredible specimen that is, in this cataloger's opinion, in a league of its own.

Commissioned by governor Chow Hsi-chen to commemorate the completion of the first provincial highway in Kweichow, this issue departed from tradition by featuring the governor's motor car as the centerpiece of its design, a declaration not only of the import of Chinese modernization efforts, but of their successful execution.

罕見擁有卓越美學價值的臆造「汽車幣」

民國十七年（1928）貴州省政府造壹圓仿臆造銀幣「汽車幣」。MS62 NGC。
車門無線，帶點。「汽車幣」來頭不凡，這枚超凡卓絕的例子集無懈可擊的品相和設計於一身。此為敝司首次經手這款臆造幣，非但歷史背景耐人尋味，外觀甚至比原鑄幣更勝一籌。此幣圖文呈淺浮雕效果，幣坯線條之清晰分明一目了然，在流淌泛溢的原光襯托下更是份外矚目，佇立於幣面上的汽車圖案仿佛閃閃生輝。繽紛多彩的窖藏包漿以及濃厚鮮艷的香檳金光營造出細膩優雅之感，倍添個性，在手上細看時令視覺體驗大為提升。按筆者所見，這枚出類拔萃的例子不論方方面面都令人眼前一亮，實為登峰造極的頂尖珍品。

汽車幣由貴州省長周西成下令鑄造，以紀念省內首條高速公路落成。其設計與主流錢幣大相徑庭，刻有省長坐駕作為主題，不但彰顯了對中國現代化的願景，更紀念了其成功實踐。
