Description

Meiji copper Pattern 1/2 Sen Year 3 (1870) XF45 Brown NGC, KM-Pn8, J&V-Y1 (Extremely Rare). One of the more intriguing Patterns from this experimental era in Meiji coinage of which very few have survived. The Jacobs and Vermeule catalog states that this issue was intended only as a trial but was inadvertently released and circulated freely until spotted by collectors. Consequently, almost all known examples are well worn and are very difficult to come by; ironically, the Osaka mint was unable to secure a Specimen for its collection. Nonetheless, the design's intention remains clear here, the sinuosity of the dragon and the articulation of the sunburst still palpable in hand. This is one of two pieces known to NGC, those being the only examples to trade hands in recent memory.

XF45 Brown NGC。
