Description

Frederik VII Speciedaler 1849 FK-VS MS67 NGC, Copenhagen mint, KM744.1, Dav-76, Bruun-8197. Georg Vilhelm Svendsen (VS) as mint master. Engraving by Frederik Christopher Krohn (FK). The first year of the first standard Speciedaler series issued by Frederik VII, the 1848 issue was a quasi-commemorative piece honoring the death of Christian VIII and Frederick's accession. This specimen is unparalleled among currently certified specimens, and surely among the finest, if not the finest, of the date in existence. NGC has certified a single Superb Gem MS67 across the three-year series, this very coin. It is certainly of no surprise that this piece boasts provenance to the L. E. Bruun Collection, a legendary curation of Scandinavian numismatics.
