Description

1836 Reeded Edge Half Dollar, XF40
GR-1, Classic Numismatic Scarcity

1836 50C Reeded Edge, GR-1, R.2, XF40 PCGS. Cobalt-blue and tan-brown toning encompasses this rare date half dollar. A loupe reveals only minor marks. Historic as the first half dollar variety struck with the recently installed steam press. The traditional mintage figure of 1,200 pieces has inspired hoarding over the years, but the production level was undoubtedly higher, given the quantity and grade distribution of survivors.
