1870 Half Dollar in Aluminum
Judd-944, PR65

1870 50C Standard Silver Half Dollar, Judd-944, Pollock-1072, R.7, PR65 NGC. On the obverse, Liberty faces right and wears a cap that is ornamented with two stars, a scroll is below with IN GOD WE TRUST on it, and around most of the periphery is UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The tip of Liberty's cap is under the E of STATES. On the reverse 50 CENTS 1870 is in the center and is surrounded by a wreath of cotton and corn with STANDARD at the top. Struck in aluminum with a plain edge. Roughly seven to 10 examples are believed to exist. A bright, nicely reflective piece showing only a few scattered hairlines. For pedigree purposes, a small toning spot is located in the right obverse field adjacent to Liberty's nose and forehead.
