Description

1900 Bryan '16 to 1' Silver Ingot, MS63
Rare Zerbe-13, Schornstein-15

1900 Bryan Money, "16 To 1" Silver Ingot, MS63 NGC. Z-13, S-15. All examples of this rare bar piece show the same cast depressions from their manufacture. The current piece displays well-defined legends with olive and russet-gray patina. William Jennings Bryan ran for president in 1896, 1900, and 1908, on a platform supporting the reintroduction of silver into the nation's monetary standard with gold (the country had been on the gold standard since legislation in 1873). Bryan supported a 16-to-1 ratio of silver to gold, which would have enlarged the size of silver dollars significantly. Much of the Bryan Money made was intended to ridicule the idea, but the small Schornstein-15 bars were among the pro-Bryan pieces made.
