Description

1806 Half Dollar, XF40
O-111a, 6 Over Inverted 6

1806 50C 6 Over Inverted 6, O-111a, T-11, R.4, XF40 PCGS. Tompkins Die State 4/5. An inverted 6 was entered into the die not once, but twice, with clear remnants of two underdigits beneath the corrected right-side-up 6. The obverse die is in its latest state, with a bisecting die crack rim-to-rim through the 8 in the date, the length of Liberty's portrait, and through the E in LIBERTY. The reverse die shows a middle die state, with a full cud above TED of UNITED, and a strong die crack UN that becomes a second cud in later states. Lightly toned in silver-gray shades with a touch of golden-tan on the high points, this XF coin has light abrasions and lines but no heavy marks or distractions. Some mint luster remains. Population (all 6 over Inverted 6 varieties): 12 in 40, 20 finer (5/16).
