Description

Select 1836 Two Cent, Judd-54

1836 P2C Two Cents, Judd-54, Pollock-57, Low R.6, PR63 Red and Brown PCGS. An upright eagle with unfurled wings stands on a cloud, with the date below and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA across the obverse border. The reverse features TWO CENTS in large, curved letters within a laurel wreath. The obverse design is reminiscent of the 'Small Eagle' motif from early silver coinage. Struck with medal turn in copper with a plain edge. The A in STATES is clumsily repunched over a T. Thick (55 to 60 grain) and thin (39 grain) varieties exist, however, the encapsulation prevents a weight measurement. A well struck piece that has beautiful rose, gold, and powder-blue colors. A trio of relatively heavy die cracks (as made) converge on the eagle's right (facing) wing. Population: 2 in 63, 3 finer (11/07).

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2968, PCGS# 11199, Greysheet# 11971)
