Description
Mint State 1860-D Half Eagle, MS60
1860-D $5 Medium D MS60 NGC. Variety 38-FF. This is the only variety of the 1860-D half eagle issue that has a medium mintmark on the reverse; the other variety has a Large D. While not fully struck, this piece has excellent detail everywhere except on the eagle's neck. Both sides are fully lustrous with brilliant green-gold surfaces. Hints of reflectivity adhere to the obverse and reverse surfaces in the protected areas near the devices. Although none are individually significant, a number of small abrasions combine to limit the grade of this piece.
