Description

War of Independence Counterstamped 8 Reales ND (1811-1814) XF40 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM285.1. Counterstamps: Round arms within wreath of the Chilpanzingo Congress and round Morellos monogram (Type A, XF Standard). Host: Cast Mexico Ferdinand VII 8 Reales 1809 Mo-TH (cf. KM110). A full of history survivor of the chaotic War of Independence period, showing bold countermarks for the issue, upon a crude but somewhat clear cast host. These underweight pieces were made at a provisional mint and re-validated by another with a countermark to ensure their acceptance, leading to several countermark combinations.
