Description

1787 1C Fugio Cent, STATES UNITED, Eight-Pointed Star XF40 PCGS. Newman 15-Y, R.3. The diagnostic die break extends from the sundial to the obverse border at about 4 o'clock. The numerals on the sundial and the letters on the reverse label are well defined, except for weakness in the lower right portion of the former and the lower part of the latter device. The letters in WE ARE ONE are relatively bold, as is the eight-pointed star at the top of the label. Indeed, most of the design elements on this milk-chocolate brown specimen are nicely defined, and are also well centered on the planchet. The semi-gloss surfaces reveal just a few light contact marks and planchet flaws, and appear to be a tad smoother on the obverse. Overall, this is an exceptional piece for an XF Fugio cent. Listed on page 83 of the 2008 Guide Book. Population: 14 in 40, 15 finer (8/07).
