Description

1795 Two Leaves Half, O-107a, Fine 12
Popular Cracked Reverse

1795 50C 2 Leaves, O-107a, T-31, R.5, Fine 12 PCGS Secure.
Tompkins Die State 1/4. The obverse was far into its fifth and final use when this O-107a (T-31) coin was struck, yet it was the previously unused reverse die that cracked and eventually failed, bringing 1795 half dollar production to a halt. The culprit was a strong die break running right to left on a downward angle from between OF and AMERICA. Faint reddish-tan undertones glow beneath deep, bluish-brown toning throughout both sides of this well-defined example. Struck on a good planchet without any Mint adjustment, the coin shows no distracting marks and has smoothly worn surfaces.
