Original Dies, Silver, Reeded Edge
1796 Castorland Medal, Silver, Thick Planchet, Reeded Edge, AU58
PCGS. CAC. Breen-1058, R-NY-30, W-9100, R.5. Struck from the
original dies, with die rust prominent at the right vessel handle
but no buckling near the NS in PARENS. A pleasing Borderline
Uncirculated example of this famous medal. Cream-gray overall with
deeper russet shades near the rims. Castorland was a colony in
upstate New York, founded as a sanctuary for those escaping the
excesses of the French Revolution. The medals were struck at the
Paris Mint. Population: 9 in 58, 17 finer. CAC: 1 in 58, 1 finer
