Description
(1792) Washington Born Virginia Cent, AU58
Copper, Legend Reverse, GW-33
(1792) Washington Born Virginia Cent, Inscribed Reverse, AU58
PCGS. Baker-60 (1885), Baker-22 (1999), W-10730, GW-33, R.5.
Plain edge. Jacob Perkins was a Massachusetts jack-of-all-trades
well known to Early American numismatists. He struck the Washington
Born Virginia cents circa 1792, probably in an attempt to secure a
coinage contract with the Federal government. The portrait of
Washington was based on the Baker-15 1791 Large Eagle cents. GW-33
is scarce, and seldom seen in better grades with sharp legends on
the central reverse. This example displays many remnants of the
initial peach-gold color. The high points and open fields are deep
brown. A few minor obverse marks are scattered. Listed on page 47
of the 2026 Guide Book.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2B79, PCGS# 723, Greysheet# 413)
