Description
1860 Indian Cent, PR66
Seldom Seen Finer, CAC Endorsed
1860 1C PR66 PCGS. CAC. Snow-PR1. The 1860 proofs represent
the first year of the Shield Wreath design paired with the Rounded
Bust obverse. Only 542 proofs were struck in 1860, making it the
second scarcest of the copper-nickel proofs. Three proof die pairs
exist, with the present coin displaying the Snow-PR1 dies. This is
a flashy and reflective example that features lovely, light-tan
surfaces showing a slight overlay of iridescence on each side. The
only surface flaw of note is a small carbon spot to the right of
the shield on the upper reverse. Compared to most 1860 proofs, this
coin offers superior overall quality and a sharp strike throughout.
It has not been seen at auction for more than 20 years. Population:
18 in 66 (1 in 66+), 0 finer. CAC: 7 in 66, 0 finer (9/24).Ex: The Palm Beach Collection / FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2004), lot 4369. (Registry values: N4719)
