Description

1886 Liberty Nickel, MS66
Near the Condition Census

1886 5C MS66 PCGS. Although the 1886 boasts over twice the mintage of the 1885 (more than 3.3 million coins vs less than 1.5 million), the later issue is rarer above the MS65 grade level. This Premium Gem represents the finest quality typically accessible, as only a handful of finer coins are known. Beautifully pristine surfaces yield warm sunset-gold toning with wisps of lilac, while neither side exhibits significant abrasions. Only trivial softness appears on select border stars and the corn ear to the left of the wreath bow. We have seen only a handful of MS66 pieces in recent years, and we have only ever seen one numerically finer coin -- an NGC piece. PCGS Population: 18 in 66 (4 in 66+), 4 finer (12/25).(Registry values: N2998)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22PK, PCGS# 3847, Greysheet# 2951)
