Description

1880-CC Liberty Eagle, AU58
Partial Field-Device Contrast

1880-CC $10 AU58 PCGS. Variety 1-C. Ex: Rian's Bequest. Carson City officials coined 11,190 ten dollar gold pieces in 1880, representing a substantial increase over the previous year's output. However, the surviving population of 1880-CC eagles is a limited 225 to 275 coins, according to Rusty Goe's The Confident Carson City Coin Collector (2020).

Orange-gold surfaces display considerable semiprooflikeness with frosted devices contrasting against minimally marked fields. Both sides are boldly struck and show trivial evidence of high-point rub. Population: 23 in 58 (1 in 58+), 4 finer (11/21).
