Description

1914-D Cent, MS65 Red
Series Key in High Grades

1914-D 1C MS65 Red PCGS. The 1914-D has the third-lowest mintage in the Lincoln cent series behind the 1909-S VDB and the 1931-S, but it has a well-deserved reputation as the most difficult of the three issues to locate in Gem condition with original Red surfaces. The two lowest-mintage emissions were saved to a significant extent, while little attention was paid to this Denver product. To that point, PCGS shows about one-tenth the number of 1914-D cents in MS65 Red compared to either of the two other issues.

This conditionally rare Gem cent features attractive copper-orange color and shimmering satin luster. The strike is strong with clear detail on the portrait and the letters of the reverse legends, save for E PLU. A few stray ticks appear on the obverse and a single mark occurs on the C in CENT. Population: 70 in 65 (7 in 65+) Red, 6 finer (5/16).(Registry values: N4719)
