1878 Morgan Dollar, MS66
Seven Tailfeathers, Reverse of 1878
1878 7TF $1 Reverse of 1878 MS66 PCGS. The arrow feathers
are parallel on the Reverse of 1878. This issue was struck in
considerable numbers after the short-lived 8 Tailfeather coins and
the subsequent restamping of the 8 Tailfeather dies with the 7
Tailfeathers hub, which created the various 7/8 Tailfeathers
varieties. The Reverse of 1878 coins constituted the bulk of the
mintage of 1878. Despite the large mintage, examples in MS66 are
elusive. This Premium Gem offers brilliant surfaces with swirling
cartwheel luster and few abrasions. Population: 55 in 66 (9 in
66+), 0 finer (5/18).Ex: Dallas Signature (Heritage, 10/2006), lot 1258.
