Description

1854-C Quarter Eagle, XF45
Original, Charcoal-Highlighted Patina

1854-C $2 1/2 XF45 NGC. Winter-1. This light green-gold specimen has deep violet and charcoal peripheral toning on both sides. The surfaces are lightly marked as expected for the Choice XF grade. One die pair produced the scant 7,295 quarter eagles of this year, of which Bowers estimates 70 to 100 exist today. The reverse die was shared with the 1852-C and 1855-C, which are also single-die marriage issues.
