Description

1923-S Buffalo Nickel, Lightly Toned MS65
Strike and Condition Rarity

1923-S 5C MS65 PCGS. The 1923-S Buffalo nickel is a well-known key and conditional rarity within the series, seldom seen finer than the Gem grade of the present piece and often exhibiting a miserable strike. PCGS reports only three examples at the Premium Gem level and none finer, underlining the importance of this Gem example. The strike on this piece is actually fairly sharp, a bit stronger on the obverse than on the reverse. Light patina and good luster complement a paucity of ticks, the sole mentionable one a small hit on the Indian's jawline. Population: 52 in 65 (2 in 65+), 3 finer (5/16).(Registry values: N4719)
