Description

1796 Draped Bust Dime, JR-2, XF45
Highly Sought First-Year Issue

1796 10C JR-2, R.4, XF45 PCGS. The E and R in LIBERTY are too close together, as if the R is bumped out of the way. Likewise, the 7 and 9 in the date are closely spaced, while the 1 and 6 are distant. Slightly scarcer than other 1796 varieties, the JR-2 is sought for first-year type as the initial year of federal dimes, as well as the inaugural use of the Small Eagle reverse. This Choice XF example is sharp at the centers with a trace of plumage remaining on the eagle's breast. Golden highlights accent the minimally marked surfaces, framed by bluish-gray borders.
