Well Struck 1916 Quarter, MS63 Full Head

1916 25C MS63 Full Head PCGS. The 1916 quarter has been the most sought-after coin in the Standing Liberty series. Unfortunately, this issue was weakly struck. In his 2007 treatise Standing Liberty Quarters, J.H. Cline writes that three percent or less were struck with Full Heads. He goes on to say that the 1916 has weak horizontal and vertical shield lines, and that the rivets are usually missing on many coins, even those in Mint State.
The current Select specimen deviates from Cline's strike profile. Not only is Liberty's head Full, but all of the rivets are clearly visible, as are the shield lines, with the horizontal ones being quite crisp. Liberty's gown lines and toes are also strong, as is the eagle's plumage. Freckles of reddish-gold are scattered over lustrous surfaces, and a few unobtrusive marks just barely preclude the next highest numeric grade. This is an exceptional coin for the Standing Liberty quarter specialist, or for any collector desiring an example of this key date.(Registry values: N4719)
